Matty
You spent a real think on Bxe3. What was your evaluation of the resulting trades, and what other candidate moves were you comparing it against?

2. Matty asks first. The question comes before any answer, and it is about your reasoning, not the engine line.

At the end of the game

A summary that quotes you back to yourself.

Accuracy by phase, the habit costing you games, and what to train next.Accuracy by phase, then the part no engine writes: what your own answers said about your thinking, which habit keeps costing you games, and the one thing to train next.

Pirc Defense. Your opponent chose a line outside your saved file early, so your preparation was not the issue.

The most important self-diagnosis came around move 19. You spent a long time deciding to trade away the dangerous attacker, and you described the result as safe because your rook pressure remained. You did see the relevant ideas, as you said, but trusted the resulting position too much.

Your later play was especially strong. The endgame was your most reliable phase, and the careful thinking you showed around move 16 and move 25 turned recovery into a full conversion.

Key takeaways

  • The recurring issue was attacking before the position was ready. Ask what improves your pieces and central control before committing to kingside operations.
  • Around move 19, the long think points to judgment rather than haste: compare the resulting position after trades, not only the immediate danger removed.
  • Your resilience was excellent: after the middle-game setbacks you accepted the new task and finished accurately.

Training. In attacking positions, practice comparing your intended attack with one quiet improving move before committing.

The opening trainer

A repertoire built from your opponents, and a report that says where it stands.

The line you missed comes back until it sticks.Every review marks the move where you left your prep. That line comes back on a spaced schedule until it sticks, and the report tells you what is mastered, what is slipping, and what you have never been asked.

Built from what they actually play

How often each reply appears in your games, how you score against it, and how your rating cohort scores. Prep the lines you meet, not the lines a book likes.

The move you left the book

Mastered is deliberately hard to reach: a position only counts once you have answered it correctly after a gap of a month. A real repertoire spends most of its life in the other three columns.

Chessalyz is an outstanding tool that has helped me to make measurable improvements in my game!

Mathieu Lalonde: I am enjoying Chessalyz so far. It helped me identify my main weaknesses: 1. Blunder check. 2. Shallow calculations, I give up too soon. 3. Time management.

Mike Steen: Super impressed. I can see that a lot of work has been put into this site. As soon as I tried it once, I signed up for a Silver membership. Great work, guys, looking forward to more good things.

Great article. Great site. I bought a one year subscription early on and wasn’t sure of the decision. Now I am certain to renew! Site gets better all the time.

Govardhana C: Training on these self talk questions is pretty great. Having them personalized based on our own games review history is even more effective.

A community member: I like that Chessalyz helps point the why as well as the what. I also like that it shows me alternatives to consider. It has been very helpful.

Questions

How is this different from the game review on Chess.com or Lichess?

Those grade your moves. Chessalyz asks what you were thinking at the two or three moments that decided the game, works out which step of your thinking failed, and only then explains the position. You leave knowing the best move, why it is best, and why you missed it.

Does it just ask questions, or does it give answers?

Both. The question comes first so your own reasoning is on the table. Then Matty explains with engine-checked lines you can hover, offers the moves to compare, and answers follow-ups in the same thread.

Where do my games come from?

Connect Chess.com or Lichess and games sync automatically, or upload a PGN, including over-the-board games. Chessalyz is not affiliated with either site; it uses their public APIs.

Is it for beginners or strong players?

Both. The depth of questions and explanations follows your rating, and the trainers carry a per-skill rating that moves as you solve.

What is free?

Five reviews a month, flashcards, ten trainer puzzles a day, the opening explorer and a starter repertoire. No card required. Silver is $4.99 a month, Gold $9.99.

Is this just another AI wrapper around an engine?

No. The questions are FM Dalton Perrine’s, a FIDE Master who uses them in his own lessons, so the coaching follows a method that already works on real students. The system underneath was built deliberately by data and machine-learning engineers, led by Varun Kumar, 20 years in tech and 10+ building ML systems: every line Matty quotes is checked against the engine and against your actual game before you see it. That is the difference between a chat window bolted onto an engine and a review you can trust.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile, open the Advanced tab and use Delete my account in the Danger Zone, or email [email protected] from the address on your account. Our team deletes your account and all its data within 48 hours and sends you a final confirmation email. On the mobile app the same button is under Profile settings.
